PRESS RELEASE

American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Approves CE for HIPAA Academy

Des Moines, IA September 5, 2002 – The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the Iowa Board of Nursing (IBON) have approved the Certified HIPAA Administrator (CHA) program for 8 contact hours of continuing education credit.

Because nearly every state nursing board in the country is accredited by the ANCC, nurses nationwide are now able to use the Certified HIPAA Administrator (CHA) program to fill their own continuing education requirements.

The 1-day Certified HIPAA Administrator (CHA) program examines the impact of the HIPAA legislation from the perspective of end users, such as nurses and administrators, responsible for delivering and supporting health-care related services. Students learn what resources they should access to obtain information and to follow the regulatory process. They will be able to effectively participate in a HIPAA program at their organization.

The ANCC was incorporated as a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association (AMA) in 1991 and has since certified more than 150,000 nurses throughout the U.S. and its territories.
