DES MOINES, IA May 28, 2002 - The HIPAA Academy announces today the appointment
of attorney Teri Ann Lawyer to the Advisory Board of the HIPAA Academy. Teri Ann’s role will be to advise
the nationally recognized training organization on the legal changes of the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act and the HIPAA ACADEMY remain purely educational when providing their Certified HIPAA
Administrator & Professional training courses. PINGEL & TEMPLER, P.C. encourages its clients
effected by HIPAA to attend the July 24-26 Certified HIPAA Professional training conference at the Embassy
Club at Capital Square, 400 Locust Street.
"The HIPAA Academy is about more than just HIPAA Awareness training. For large corporations it is a
chance for their HIPAA Team to review what they have learned through their own research and the chance
to help keep them in front of the HIPAA deadlines," said Jerome Schuster Regional Manager of the HIPAA
Academy. "For smaller companies to local clinics, the HIPAA Academy offers peace of mind. We can teach
them how to become HIPAA compliant and avoid the penalties and fines. We can even show them how they
can save money and get a return on their investment."
The HIPAA Academy structure is unique in that it delivers baseline HIPAA knowledge and competence
in the core skills that are broadly required for healthcare executives, senior clinicians, chief
information officers, lawyers, compliance officers, privacy and security officials, quality assurance
and risk managers, insurance executives, physicians and office managers, pharmaceutical company executives,
and clinical trial organization professionals.
Business professionals in the health care and insurance industries as well as IT professionals would find
the HIPAA Academy programs the critical first step for acquiring HIPAA knowledge and skills to participate
as valuable members of HIPAA compliance teams within organizations.
"Pingel & Templer, P.C. is proud to be a part of the Advisory Board for the HIPAA Academy.
It is not often that a training organization of their size will ask for outside parties to help them make
sure their students are getting the best and most up to date HIPAA Training,” said Teri Ann Lawyer,
Attorney for Pingel and Templer, P.C.
The HIPAA Professional exam validates knowledge and skills in the core areas of HIPAA Administrative
Simplification legislation: Transactions and Code Sets Requirements, Privacy Requirements and Security
Requirements. The HIPAA Administrator exam validates knowledge and skills of end users that are
responsible for delivery and support of health care services and administration.
Proctored exams for Certified HIPAA Professional and Certified HIPAA Administrator will be available
across hundreds of testing centers in the United States in July 2002.
