NEW HORIZONS EXPANDS TRAINING PROGRAMS WITH HIPAA CERTIFICATION AND TRAINING CURRICULUM
 

ANAHEIM, Calif., January 22, 2003 — New Horizons Computer Learning Centers (Nasdaq: NEWH), the world's largest IT training provider, today announced that it offers a series of in-depth training courses that prepare students for HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance certification exams administered by the HIPAA Academy.

New Horizons HIPAA Academy Certification Program includes three certification courses: the Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP), the Certified HIPAA Administrator (CHA) and the Certified HIPAA Security Specialist (CHSS).  The courses deliver baseline HIPAA knowledge and competence in the core skills that are broadly required for various professionals including healthcare executives, privacy and security officials, insurance executives and clinical trial organization professionals.  The training is the first step to acquiring the knowledge base and skill set in order to participate as a valuable member of a HIPAA compliance team within an organization.

The HIPAA Professional exam validates the knowledge and skills in the core areas of HIPAA administrative simplification legislation, transactions and code sets requirements, privacy requirements and security requirements.  The HIPAA Administrator exam is focused on the Privacy Rule and validates knowledge and skills of end users that are responsible for delivery and support of health care services and administration.  The HIPAA Security exam validates knowledge in the major domain areas of the HIPAA Security and Electronic Signature Standard.

Courses are offered through New Horizons Classroom Learning, one method of training delivery in the company’s Integrated Learning strategy, and certification testing is available at all New Horizons authorized Prometric testing centers.  In addition to the Classroom Learning offering, training is also available via New Horizons self-paced Online ANYTIME HIPAA awareness library of courses, which are targeted at specific job roles.
