CompTIA Security+T Advisory Committee Program

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., October 18, 2006 - The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the leading provider of vendor-neutral certifications for information technology (IT) workers around the world, announced today the 2006-07 advisory committee for its CompTIA Security+™ certification.

CompTIA Security+ certification is a foundation-level, vendor-neutral professional certification for network security practitioners with two years’ experience who have daily hands-on responsibility for information security. Nearly 30,000 IT professionals around the world who have daily “hands-on” responsibility for their employer’s information security infrastructure hold CompTIA Security+ certification.

George Proeller, president of the Colorado Springs chapter of the Information Systems Security Association, an international non-profit organization of information security professionals and practitioners, will serve as chairman of the advisory committee.

Serving as vice chairman is L.V. McCoy, principal consultant, VeriSign, Inc., which operates intelligent infrastructure services that enable and protect billions of interactions every day across the world’s voice and data networks.

Other members of the CompTIA Security+ advisory committee for 2006-07 are:

  • Charles Brooks, president, Educational Technologies Group, a national developer of technical training programs in the computer, networking, "smart home," and electronics sectors.
  • Tina Bush, senior product manager, Element K, a leading provider of learning solutions, services, and training content.
  • Jim Clark, product planner, IT professionals, Microsoft Corp., the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.
  • Susan Farago, project manager, IBM Tivoli Professional Certification Programs.
  • Steve Helba, executive editor, Thomson Course Technology, the worldwide leader in computer education products and services.
  • Barry Kaufman, director, training services, Vigilar, Inc., an information security consulting company.
  • Jeff Kellum, editor, Sybex International, a leading publisher for the global IT community for nearly 30 years.
  • Frazier Evans, senior consultant, VeriSign, Inc., which operates intelligent infrastructure services that enable and protect billions of interactions every day across the world’s voice and data networks.
  • Bryan Ochs, product solutions director, New Horizon Computer Learning Centers, Inc., the world’s largest independent IT training provider.
  • Uday Ali Pabrai, chief executive officer, ecfirst.com, home of The HIPAA Academy, and a leader in delivering IT services to the health care and financial industries.
  • Linda Scrivano, certification manager, Symantec Corp., the world leader in providing solutions to help individuals and enterprises assure the security, availability, and integrity of their information.
  • Nik Alston, manager, learning solutions, global learning and certification, Symantec Corp.
