ABOUT ISO/IEC 27000 - A GLOBAL INFORMATION SECURITY FRAMEWORK The ISO/IEC 27000 series includes information security standards published jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). This series provides best practice recommendations on information security management, risks and controls within the context of an overall Information Security Management System (ISMS).
The ISO 27000 standards are applicable to organizations of all types, across industries, and sizes. If your organization is required to comply with regulations such as PCI-DSS, HITECH, HIPAA or other Federal or State requirements, please note that the ISO 27000 provides an exceptional framework to address security regulatory mandates.
In this executive brief, we will focus on the two standards that influence information security initiatives worldwide – the ISO 27001 and 27002 – as well as NIST guidelines. These standards cover requirements related to security techniques for information technology as well as provide a model for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving an ISMS.
